Jam Rules

SHBC Jam Rules

    • Speak to the Jam Coordinator who will schedule your spot and write your name on the whiteboard. Do this as early as possible to ensure a spot.  If you turn up late, the Jam Coordinator will try and accommodate you, but you may not get a spot.
    • Respect other players, regardless of their level of experience.
    • Each group of jammers should plan to perform three to five songs, depending on available time. The Jam Coordinator will advise you and will let you know when you have one more song.
    • If there are too many, or too few jammers, the Jam Coordinator may adjust the jams according to the available timeframe.
    • Whoever selects a particular song is the Jam Leader. If you are the jam leader, do your homework. When you pick a tune, make sure you know it and most importantly, know how to explain it to others.
        • Song name and artist(s)
        • Key (make it clear - for example, "D for Dog")
        • Chord progression (break it into parts – intro, verse, chorus, solo, end)
        • Stops?
        • Tempo
        • Who wants or doesn't want a solo?
        • CHECK EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO > Count it in
    • The Sound Engineer may ask you to turn down. They will only ask you to do this if you’re too loud for the room and your volume is uncomfortable for your audience. If you can't hear yourself, ask the Sound Engineer to put your instrument in your monitor. If you don’t turn down, the Jam Coordinator may cut your group of jammers short.
